The 2010 OC Marathon Course travels through the beautiful coastal communities of Newport Beach, Irvine and Costa Mesa. The first 10 miles of the course are along the Pacific Ocean and Newport Beach Back Bay. (Detailed Route Overview/Turn by Turn Directions)
The course is net downhill in elevation from start to finish. From the start to mile 5 is all downhill. From mile 5 to 9.5, it is flat. At mile 9.5 there is a hill 150 ft. long and 45' in height and at mile 11.5 there is a 1/4 of a mile long incline also 45' in height. These are the only two inclines on the 1/2 marathon course. If you are running the full marathon, you will additionally have another 45' incline at mile 14.5 over the 405 overpass and a 40' incline slightly over 1/4 of a mile in length at mile 23 after leaving Fairview Park. These are all relatively small hills.
Water Stations: There will be 20 water stations on the course located at miles 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, and 25.
Energy Drink: Nutrilite® Sports Drink will be the on course energy drink and it will be available at all 20 water stations.
