KIDS RUN THE OC

SATURDAY 05.01.10

The OC Marathon is excited to host the 6th annual Kids Run the OC on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

The 2010 Kids Run the OC Program Information is now available.  Registration Information for Parents is available here in ENGLISH and here in SPANISH.  A  two-page Information for Coordinators Sheet can be found here.  You can also download a PDF of the Powerpoint Presentation given at the Informational Meetings to share with your principals and PTAs to solicit interest.

REGISTER ONLINE NOW by clicking on the logo below:

You must be a parent of a student at one of the 2010 participating schools listed below to register your child for the May 1, 2010 event.

Please note:  You must provide two waivers in hard copy format to your child's coach.  OC Marathon 2010 Waiver English and OC Fair & Event Center Waiver English can be downloaded here. OC Marathon 2010 Waiver Spanish and OC Fair & Event Center Waiver Spanish can be downloaded here.  Parents of children 8 and under may only run with their child if they register and pay the $25.00 fee and sign the two waivers for themselves as well as their child. Parents of children 9 and over may not run with their children. We recommend that all children run on their own as they have trained and prepared for this great event and we have developed a closed, safe course for them to enjoy and reap the benefits of all their hard work!

For schools interested in becoming involved in the 2010 Kids Run the OC Training program, Informational Meetings will be held immediately prior to the upcoming trainings from 9am to 10am on or Saturday, January 9, 2010.  We ask that all new schools attend an informational meeting at which we cover the nuts and bolts of the administration portion of the program, including registration, rosters, bibs, and other race day and event details.

Curriculum Trainings for the Kids Run the OC will be held from 10am to 12noon onSaturday, Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Room D-1002 at the Orange County Department of Education in Costa Mesa. A map of and directions to the Orange County Department of Education facility can be found here. You only need to attend one training.

We have made significant changes to the curriculum through our partnership with the Orange County Department of Education.  These include a more user friendly layout, more games and resources, and more options for your programs. We are VERY excited about these changes and ask that all OLD and NEW schools attend one of the two trainings.  The returning schools are a great resource for the new schools to ask questions, get ideas and provide mentoring to our new schools.

For more information on the Kids Run the OC program or to RSVP for the informational and/or training meetings so that we have enough materials and food available, please contact kidsruntheoc@ocmarathon.com.

About The Training Program

The Kids Run The OC Training Program was designed to help pre-adolescent kids become more physically fit, promote an active and healthy lifestyle and combat the onset of childhood obesity. . . while having fun! This is accomplished through various games, which help improve speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, flexibility and your child's overall fitness. Students from each participating school will be led through our popular and fun training program at their school by The OC Marathon certified coach. By the end of the program each student will have accumulated the equivalent of 25.2 miles of fun activity, and will be ready to finish their own Marathon by completing their final mile at the Kids Run The OC held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events at the OC Fair and Event Center on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

  Orange County Department of Education

The OC Marathon is proud to have the support of the OC Department of Education for the 2010 Kids Run the OC event. Orange County Superintendent of Schools, William M. Habermehl, stated, "Increasing the physical fitness of our students is linked to better overall health and higher academic performance. Learning about fitness and nutrition in a fun environment is the reason that the Orange County Kids Run program, which started with 400 youth in 2005, has expanded to over 1,500 in 2008. In these tough budget times, I am pleased that schools will be able to use this exciting program not only to encourage physical fitness, but to raise money for schools.*"

(*Schools must be part of the official Kids Run the OC training program to participate in the May 1, 2010 event and be eligible for the fundraising opportunities).
