KIDS RUN THE OC
|
 |
|
SATURDAY 04.30.11
The Kids Run The OC Training Program was designed to help pre-adolescent kids become more physically fit, promote an active and healthy lifestyle and combat the onset of childhood obesity. . . while having fun! This is accomplished through various games, which help improve speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, flexibility and your child's overall fitness. Students from each participating school will be led through our popular and fun training program at their school by The OC Marathon certified coach. By the end of the program each student will have accumulated the equivalent of 25.2 miles of fun activity, and will be ready to finish their own Marathon by completing their final mile at the Kids Run The OC held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events at the OC Fair and Event Center on Saturday, April 30, 2011.
A Video Tribute to Kids Run The OC
The OC Marathon is proud to have the support of the OC Department of Education for the 2011 Kids Run the OC event. Orange County Superintendent of Schools, William M. Habermehl, stated, "Increasing the physical fitness of our students is linked to better overall health and higher academic performance. Learning about fitness and nutrition in a fun environment is the reason that the Orange County Kids Run program, which started with 400 youth in 2005, has expanded to 2000 students in 2010."
The OC Marathon provides the training and program materials for the coaches at each school location. All you need is a committed group of teachers and/or volunteers to run the program on site. We recommend the trainings be held twice a week, leading up to the event in order for you to cover the mileage and program activities.
A complete schedule of trainings, deadlines, and how to get your school involved in the 2011 race will be available on this web site by September 1, 2010. Check back here or contact kidsruntheoc@ocmarathon.com to be placed on our email list to receive notifications when all the 2011 Kids Run the OC Training Materials are available.
In 2010 we had nearly 2000 participants in the program and could not have done it without the amazing support of our volunteer coaches at each school and their supportive principals and staff. We'd like to recognize and thank the 2010 Kids Run the OC and Training Program Participants:
