If you are a 2012 Coach or Participant, please visit the following pages for the information you will need to participate in the program at your school.
What is the Kids Run the OC?
The Kids Run The OC Training Program was designed to help pre-adolescent kids become more physically fit, promote an active and healthy lifestyle and combat the onset of childhood obesity. . . while having fun! This is accomplished through various games, which help improve speed, agility, hand/eye coordination, flexibility and your child's overall fitness. Students from each participating school will be led through our popular and fun training program at their school by The OC Marathon certified coach. By the end of the program each student will have accumulated the equivalent of 25.2 miles of fun activity, and will be ready to finish their own Marathon by completing their final mile at the Kids Run The OC held in conjunction with The OC Marathon finish line events at the OC Fair and Event Center on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
The OC Marathon provides the training and program materials for the coaches at each school location. All you need is a committed group of teachers and/or volunteers to run the program on site. Contact kidsruntheoc@ocmarathon.com for more information on upcoming trainings or to be placed on our mailing list.
In 2011 we had nearly 3000 participants in the program and could not have done it without the amazing support of our volunteer coaches at each school and their supportive principals and staff. Below is a video that is a fantastic overview of the merits of the Kids Run the OC Training Program and Event Day.
The OC Marathon is proud to have the support of the OC Department of Education for the 2012 Kids Run the OC Event. Orange County Superintendent of Schools, William M. Habermehl, stated, "Increasing the physical fitness of our students is linked to better overall health and higher academic performance. Learning about fitness and nutrition in a fun environment is the reason that the Orange County Kids Run program, which started with 400 youth in 2005, has expanded to 3000 students in 2011."
